Hi,
Just thought I ought to warn you of a new type of phishing attempt.

Mrs Maria Goncalves (she might just be dumb enough to use the same name more than once) of Sydney Australia contacted me via a competitive website to this, to book four nights in our B&B. We had a free room, and there was nothing suspicious at that stage, so I replied positively witha request for a cheque for a deposit as usual. She replied saying that her company (she was an aid worker) was paying for her trip, so could I tell her the total amount, which her "french agent" would pay. (I was slightly suspicious, but decided to string her along). She "forgot" to give me her husband's first name and their address, until I pressed her.

Anyway with quite a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, she finally told me that the cheque had been posted and would arrive any day. Finally - it did, for €4800 and with a subsequent explanation that the rest was to pay her air fare. The cheque was drawn on Amron, a non-existent branch and without a sort code.

So be warned. This fraud is much harder to spot.

Yes, 99% are easy to spot but occasionally you get one that is harder. I receive about 10 a day and I send an automated response accepting the booking. I have a huge pile of cheques that amount to a few hundred thousand euros Smile

Well... it's just for fun but I love to waste their time and their stamps as they waste so much of mine Wink

At the moment I monitor e-mails that go through www.chambresdhotes.org so that I can ban these people from the site when they use the contact form to do this. It all takes time, and with nearly 7000 people on the site it is difficult to check everything so of course some e-mails get through and I always appreciate it if people give me a heads up if they receive a scam , spam , e-mail through chambresdhotes.org
