A warm welcome awaits you at La Vieille Distillerie, a restored Maison de Maitre dating from the mid-nineteenth century with its own former Cognac distillery.

An even warmer welcome is extended in winter in this centrally heated house with log fires and candlelit dinners.

In the south Charente region one can enjoy many activities including cookery classes (eg Chez Cartier with Reza Mahammed), visits to local Cognac distilleries, wine-tasting, golf, fishing, horse-riding and bird-watching. There are also many historic towns and villages with interesting Chateaux and gardens to be visited.

Situated in the tranquil hamlet of Le Tatre, 4 kms off the N10 route to the South and Spain, it is a convenient stop-off or an ideal place from which to explore the beautiful French countryside.

We are close to vineyards, sunflower fields and rolling countryside. The quiet roads are ideal for cyclists, walkers and birdwatchers, where the Hoopoe, Black Redstart, Serin, Black Kite and Zetting Cisticole can all be seen in the area of Le Tatre.

We are an excellent base for house hunters being near the borders of three Departments, the Charente Maritime, the Gironde and the Dordogne. A fishing lake and a tennis court are within a few yards of our house. An eleventh century church overlooks our garden.
