Appréciations pour Le Petit Chateau, Willeman:

Quelle surprise!

What a lovely welcome from Madeleine and her family! The food was delicious, the wine plentiful, the room comfortable and we were even allowed to milk the cows! Next time we hope to stay longer but even in a short time we were able to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside.

We stayed at Le Petit Chateau during a weekend break in Northern France with some friends. We drove to the accommodation from Calais and found the journey to be relatively straight forward following first the A16 motorway (note that part of this route is a toll road), and then the D939 before switching to the local roads to the village of Willeman. Our hosts had kindly provided instructions for the journey but if you are making the journey yourself, you may find it an advantage to have either a Sat Nav or a good map to help you.
Le Petit Chateau, is located at one end of a pretty little village street and near to the seventeenth century manor house, Manoir de Vallières Chateu. It is an attractive brick built building which sits in its own grounds and features running water passing through the garden and joining with the stream which runs through the village. The village itself is surrounded by farmland and has minimal passing traffic so is very quiet and at night time when we arrived, dark enough to clearly see the stars in the night sky, and hear owls hooting.
It is fair to say that none of our party are fluent in French, however this was not a problem at the accommodation as your hostess Madeleine is English and fluent in French.
The room accommodation is located on the ground floor and consists of two bedrooms, one double and one twin, and a separate large bathroom equipped with basin, bath, shower, bidet and toilet. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the windows fitted with manually operated blinds which when closed shuts out all external light. The double room was equipped with a large wardrobe and drawer unit with room lights switchable from the bedside. A small dressing table with tea and coffee making facilities and a bottle of water, was also available through there was no mirror in the room. A television was provided though we did not use this facility. We had no problems sleeping at night and found the double bed very comfortable as it had a memory foam mattress.
Guests may use the living room which also doubles as the dining room having a table at one end and armchairs and a sofa at the other. The venue has a folder of pamphlets detailing local attractions if you are seeking ideas for trips out.
Our hosts provided some very good meals during our stay including a small meal for our (late) arrival on Friday night, which was very well received as we had been travelling since early afternoon. Breakfasts were a mixture of croissants, pain au chocolates, fruit and yoghurts accompanied by fruit juices tea and coffee. On the Saturday evening we were treated to a fabulous four course meal of traditional French cuisine which was very well cooked and satisfying, evening meals were served complete with wine
If you have the time, it is worth taking a walk through the village of Willeman following the road from the old Chateau up to the lovely old village church with its war memorial and churchyard, unfortunately we were unable to enter the church at the time of our visit (early evening). The road follows the stream running through the village and the surrounding fields some with livestock, makes it a very pleasant walk especially if working up an appetite for the evening meal.
The village of Willeman provides a well-placed base for exploring a region of Northern France soaked in history and during our visit we made trips to the city of Arras, the battlefields of Vimy Ridge and Azincourt and also the seaside resort of Le Touquet.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Petit Chateau, we were made most welcome by our hosts and because the accommodation does not have the formality of a more conventional bed and breakfast the experience is more akin to spending the weekend with friends at their house. We would recommend a stay here for families; or couples looking to explore this part of France or even those with an interest in military history and keen to explore the various battlefields in this region.
Fabulous

Lovely spacious room and large bathroom. Very welcoming host who made us feel that we could do what we wanted. Gorgeous 4 course meal. Would stay here again and recommend to others.
Nous avons eu un séjour très agréable à cette Chambre d'hotes
Review by: brandy eclat, Sep 16 2014 11:18PM

Excellent B&B, charming hosts, superb food
Review by: Jo Crawford, Mai 22 2014 2:33PM
We can highly recommend this B&B.; The hosts, an English and French couple, and their family were very welcoming and relaxed, making us feel at home. We had a large comfortable ground floor bedroom, a large bathroom with great shower and bath, as well as a lounge and dining table, for our own use. All rooms overlook the lovely large garden with stream running around it. Breakfasts were served at our own dining table in the guests lounge and were very good and varied each day eg meats, cheeses, croissants, fruit salad, goose eggs etc. We ate in on the first night - a four course meal with drinks which was good value. For the other two nights we ate out in Hesdin, a nice town around a 10 minute drive away. All meals were excellent but out of the three, Madeleine's was the best. The Seven Valleys area is beautiful, and the location of the B&B; is very quiet, in a pretty village with a chateaux and pretty church but no shops - everything else you need can be found in Hesdin. There is plenty to do in the area and the coast is only around 45 minutes away. You feel a million miles away from the UK and yet the area is very accessible - even for short breaks - being only 1hr 15 minutes from Calais. The hosts were very helpful with information about the area and went out of their way to help us in our property search. We will definitely be back!
Excellent B&B, welcoming hosts, superb food

We stayed for 3 nights at this great B&B in a lovely location. The hosts (English and French couple) and their family were welcoming and relaxed. We had a large bedroom, bathroom and lounge for our own use. The breakfasts were varied and delicious and we ate in one night - a superb four course dinner with drinks. The other two nights we ate in the attractive town of Hesdin, around 10minutes drive away. Of the three meals, Madeleine's was the best. We highly recommend this B&B and will be back.
Excellent B&B, superb hosts, recommend the food

We had a 3 night break at this very comfortable B&B in a beautiful, quiet setting in the village of Willeman in the Canche Valley. The hosts are an English and French couple. They, and their family are warm and welcoming, and very relaxed. The bedroom is large and comfortable, and the bathroom huge, with great shower and bath. There is also a twin bedroom to accommodate a family. A separate sitting room was available for us to use and a nice big garden, with a stream running around it. There were three different breakfasts - all delicious, and we had a four course meal with drinks included, one evening. The food was superb - can highly recommend it. We ate out in Hesdin the other two nights - also very good, but we thought Madeleine's cooking was the best of all three. The hosts went out of their way to help us with information about the local area - and especially in our property search. Can highly recommend this B&B and the location in the Seven Valleys, with lots to see and do in the area and the coast within easy access too. Will definitely be back!
