1123 Chemin du Touret, Salon de Provence, 13300

Welcome to Les Agathes, a detached villa set in more than 2 hectares (5 acres) of private grounds. If you are looking for a relaxing stay in Provence, please have a look at what we can offer you. Our price is fixed at €70 per night for the room (single or couple) including breakfast.

Conveniently located 3 kilometres (1.9 miles) from the centre of Salon de Provence, and within easy reach of Avignon, Aix, Nimes, Arles and Marseille, Les Agathes is close enough for you to enjoy the facilities on offer in the nearby towns and cities, whilst at the same time benefiting from the peace and quiet of its countryside location.

Unlike many other Chambre d’Hôtes and Table d’Hôtes, we only provide one double room so you will not share the grounds, villa or pool with other people except ourselves, thus ensuring a peaceful and private stay. We are fully registered, inspected and insured for the business.

Les Agathes is the old French name for ‘Marbles’ and refers to the circular window above the entrance door that is filled with glass marbles.

Description of Les Agathes Bed & Breakfast:

Having travelled ourselves in France, we know that many guests do not want to arrive, un-pack and then have to go and explore town for a meal. We wanted to offer more than the usual ‘bed and breakfast’. Many guests like to relax after their journey, sit on our terrace with a cool drink and then be able to have a meal and drinks served to them. The Table d’Hôte status allows us to do this.

Upon your arrival we will show you to your room, which has its own private shower and w.c. French doors from the room lead onto your terrace complete with table, chairs, parasol and loungers. This area is the perfect place to sit with a cool drink and soak up the sun of Provence. It can get very hot in Provence; there are other cool and shady spots around the villa that you are of course free to use.

If you are arriving for a special occasion such as an anniversary and would like something special arranged, please let us know. We will happily arrange flowers or chilled champagne at only cost price to you. We are also able to suggest good local restaurants, and book these for you if you so wish.

If you want to brush up on your French, Isabelle can provide French lessons. We can also arrange trips to vineyards or olive mills and local attractions. Jonathan can generally be on hand most days and will endeavour to ensure that you have all that you require for a peaceful stay.

In return all that we ask is that guests respect the peace and tranquillity of the villa. This is necessary for Calypso our daughter aged 8 who is still at school and who needs her sleep at night.

Table d’Hôte menus:

We have no set menus, our menu changes to reflect the seasonal produce that we have. Provence is a food lover’s paradise, with many vegetables growing all year round. The local meats also include lamb, some of which is grazed on our land and which becomes flavoured with all of the herbs that grow here. The market in Salon has an excellent selection of fish landed directly from Marseille. Our meals are not ‘high cuisine’, Provence food is recognised as being locally sourced good wholesome food. We are fortunate to have access to some of the finest food and herbs - right on our doorstep. The following should give you an idea of what we can offer:

•Light lunches of fresh garden salads (lettuce / rocket), salade Nicoise, radishes, tomatoes, marinated peppers, fresh bread, tapenades (olive pastes), cheeses, quiches (home made), local pâtés, olives, fresh local fruit etc.
•Evening meals might include local speciality starters such as tomatoes provencales, marinated sardines, different meat terrines, fresh asparagus, a variety of vegetarian cold or warm soups. “Soupe au pistou” (pesto soup) and Fish soup are local specialities and are often served as more of a main course. Charcuterie is a selection of dry cured hams and sausages.
•Main courses might typically include barbequed meats (local sausages, steaks, lamb, grilled chicken etc.) All seasoned with herbes de Provence, a mix of local herbs. Guinea fowl is also popular in Provence all served with fresh side vegetables including courgettes, spinach, gratin of swiss chard, leeks, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, aubergine, artichoke, asparagus etc most of them grown here at the villa. Home made quiches (vegetarian or not) and our own pizzas are very popular. We also make our own fresh pasta with our eggs. Fresh fish is also available from the local market and typical daily catches include Thon (tuna), espadon (swordfish), Loup (sea bass), daurade (gilt head), rouget (red mullet), anchois (anchovy) and sardines etc. Shellfish includes crabs, mussels, and scallops flown from the west coast. Octopus, squid, cuttlefish are also popular here. Wine is served from our local co-operative and your meal can include a bottle of red, white or rose depending on the food served and your wishes.
•Deserts may include ice creams, sorbets, chocolate tart, lemon tart, tarte tartin, and of course fresh fruits all grown and ripened around Salon (peaches, nectarines, melons). If you know in advance you would like to stay for dinner, please give us a bit of advance warning so we can source the fresh ingredients for you in time. All meals end with the cheese board in France. Coffee is served (as well as herbal teas if you so wish) and we have a good selection of liqueurs and spirits available which we have a licence to sell on the premises.
•Due to the fine weather in Provence, most evening meals are taken outside and served on your terrace.

Hours of arrival / departure

We ask that guests only arrive from 2pm onwards. Should you wish to arrive very late, please just contact us with more information. The room should be vacated by 11.30 am the following day, unless of course you have booked more than one night.

‘Happy House rules’

•Unless otherwise agreed with us, the rest of the villa is out of bounds to visitors apart from breakfast times when breakfast can be taken indoors if you wish.
•Breakfast is usually served between the hours of 8.30 – 9.30. We can be flexible on this should you have an early start for example, or if you prefer to eat later.
•Lunch in France is served between 12 and 2 with evening meals available to suit your schedule.
•The villa is no smoking but smoking is permitted outside. Smoking is a serious fire hazard in the countryside of Provence. Any cigarettes etc. must be disposed off in the ashtray provided.
