After a small laundry room you come to a large vestibule equipped as a comfortable salon. Beyond is a large naturally very light and spacious living room that leads directly onto the large rooftop terrace. It is magic to sit there in the evening, an oasis of tranquility above the streets. The terrace looks over the canal tile roof tops of the bastide and the spires of the Cathedrale Saint-Michel, yet is private.

At the east end of the apartment are the three bedrooms and the two bathrooms. There is a bath, a power shower and great wardrobe space. All the windows are double glazed. There is air conditioning and electrically controlled blinds and shutters. The whole apartment is very light and well equipped. The apartment has been cleverly designed to make it spacious but homely.

Situated in the Renaissance bastide of Carcassonne you are minutes walk from the best markets, restaurants, museums and park that Carcassonne has to offer.

In the winter the people of Carcassonne regularly take to the nearby ski slopes and historical, archaeological and wine destinations are within easy reach. Toulouse, Narbonne and Barcelona are also popular destinations. Watersports, bird watching, hiking and Orchids are all nearby. Parking is nearby and the apartment is a 7 minute walk from the central train station.


Access:

Carcassonne is in the Aude département of which it is the préfecture, in the former province of Languedoc and the present region of Languedoc-Rousillon. It is located in the between the Black Mountains and the Pyrénées, within a short drive of the Meditteranean Sea.

It lies on important routes connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea; and Spain to France and Italy. The River Aude flows north from the the Pyrenees to the city and then east into the Gulf of Lyon. The Canal du Midi also flows through Carcassonne, so you can get to it by canal barge from anywhere on the French national canal network.

The town lies 90 km (56 miles) south-east of Toulouse, just a few kilometers inland from Narbonne.

The Penthouse is located within the pentagonal Ville Basse (aka Bastide de St Louis):

Carcassonne. Ryanair fly daily from Stansted (Near London in the UK) to Carcassonne, and regularly each week from Sheffield (UK), Liverpool (UK) East Midlands (UK) Dublin (Ireland), Shannon (Ireland), offering cheap flights mid week during the low season. Cars can be hired at the airport. There is also a railway station which is seven minutes walk from the apartment.

Toulouse. Carcassonne is about an hour and a half's drive from Toulouse, which has an international airport served by British Airways from London Heathrow, Air France from London Gatwick, and Buzz (cheap mid-week flights) from London Stansted and Bristol. From Toulouse head towards Carcassonne (by car, rail or coach). We can offer clients precise travel plans when required.
