Mourelet, Bassoues

Description of B&B:

This old country house is situated on a ridge looking towards a small Bastide (14th century village) with a rural atmosphere in the beautiful rolling Gers countryside. This Gascon area is the home of Foie Gras and Armagnac Brandy. A truly relaxing countryside with walks through the forests, pastures and fields of sunflowers and corn.
Mourelet is 2 km's from the very attractive village of Bassoues a 14th century fortified village with an imposing donjon (watch tower) and 15th century market. Bassoues D'Armagnac is in the centre of Gers an area of South West France (Gascony) which has been termed "a best kept secret". There are many bastide villages and towns each with its own typical french market. It is very rural - the main industry being farming and therefore fields of maize, beans, rape, and pastures abound with of course the large sleepy Blond Gascon cattle. Lots of forest for walking, you may see deer and wild boar ( the latter are very shy). Armagnac is produced locally as the name Bassoues D'Armagnac implies.

Access:

The village is about 20 minutes from the Jazz town of Marciac and the same from Mirande and Vic-Fezensac. It is less than two hours West of Toulouse and a little more than two hours East of Biarritz and South East of Bordeaux, all of which are served by a variety of low cost airline services. There is a TGV train service into Tarbes, with car rental offices by the station.
It is aboout 11 hours gentle drive from Cherbourg or le Havre and about 8 from St Malo.
