Les Rosiers is in Les Bories, a small working walnut farm hamlet. 2mins walk to the Vezere river. The little village of Thonac with its well stocked shop, restaurant and bar, is less than a mile away. Beautiful village of Saint Leon 5 min drive. The charming market town of Montignac and the famous Lascaux caves are just a 6 minute drive to the north, and the pre-historic troglodyte fortress of La Roque Saint-Christophe a ten minute drive to the South.
You will be spoilt for choice for things to do and places to visit. The medieval town of Sarlat; Les Eyzies, home to the National Museum of Pre-History; and several of the Plus Beaux Villages de France including St Leon sur Vézère, Beynac, Castelnaud, and Domme, are within a twenty mile radius of the house. Just in case you do not know the region, here are a few suggestion of the many things to do around us. We are in the countryside, but the things to do and see are endless. Unless of course you just wish to relax around Les Rosiers, which is always a choice too. Either way you will never be bored in Perigord and even if you do know the area well, it is my experience that there is always something new to discover.
Things to do/about, the region /Aquitaine.
This Region ie: Vallee de Vezere/Dordogne - "Perigord Noir"........has the highest concentrations of Frances' most beautiful villages".
" Les Rosiers" rentals/chambre d'hote is in the hamlet of Les Bories, a small working walnut farm hamlet. 2mins walk to the Vezere river. Cross the road to my neighbours farm/ Msr Braserie to buy walnut oil/l'huille de noix, or watch him make the oil, very interesting and the smell (even from Les Rosiers:) is divine.
The charming (and one of the main reasons that I chose to live here to day) market town of Montignac sur Vezere is 4K away.https://ourfrenchdream.wordpress.com/category/montignac/ Montignac market is Wednesday and Saturday mornings close to the church, local producers selling their good, wonderful. Also in Montignac are the already famous Lascaux caves and after December 2016 there is also the magnificent 35million euro, New Lascaux IV centre, see here at http://www.projet-lascaux.com, to visit both sites are just a 5 minute drive to the north of us-4K. The amazing and magical chateau de Commarque http://www.commarque.com/ a 20 min drive away. (Attention it is a 600 metre walk to the site from parking, a lovely walk and well worth it, but you need walking shoes) The pre-historic troglodyte fortress of La Roque Saint-Christophe http://www.roque-st-christophe.com a ten minute drive to the South, next to the beautuful village, not to be missed, of Saint Leon sur Vezere.
continue in the rd D704 5 mins after Roque Saint Christophe is the wonderful and very interesting Maison de forte Reignac, both open to visitors all year round. Commarque, forte et ville troglodyte. http://www.maison-forte-reignac.com

The medieval towns of Sarlat; Les Eyzies, home to the National Museum of Pre-History; and several of the Plus Beaux Villages de France including St Leon sur Vézère, Beynac, Castelnaud, and Domme, are within a twenty mile radius of the house.
My personal local favourites in the area are the afore mentioned Roque Saint Christophe, (10min drive) Maison de forte Reignac (15mins drive) and magical "Commarque" (20min drive) medieval site, (NB: wear good walking shoes if visiting Commarque fabulous fortress, lots of stairs to climb and it's a 600 metre hike from the car, gently down hill, so return is?...yes, but completely worth it:)
Other wonderful attractions in the immediate area include pre-historic parks and caves; chateaux and gardens; and magnificent castles dating back to the Hundred Years War.
The many and varied activities on the doorstep include canoeing, horse-riding, walking, cycling and paragliding.

Les Rosiers
Review by: Basil ALLSOPP, Mar 30 2016 6:39PM
We stayed at Les Rosiers in late March. We arrived late, in the dark, after a long drive, and were greeted by the cheerful and welcoming proprietor, Jill Lane. The house was warm, bright, and comfortable, and a complimentary bottle of wine added greatly to our feeling that we had come to a good place. We were not disappointed either: the beds were comfortable, the hot water was plentiful, and the surroundings were quiet, rural and peaceful. We had come to visit Lascaux, but there is an enormous variety of other things to do in the Perigord Noir region. If you intend to visit the region you should try Les Rosiers, you wont be disappointed.
Response by Owner:
Thank you Basil for your very kind words. It was a delight to meet you all. I look forwards to perhaps seeing you all again one day hopefully next time you can stay a little longer and take in not only Lascaux IV, but all the delights of Perigord Noir. Have a wonderful year, very best wishes, a la prochaine , Jill

«Les Rosiers»
Review by: Basil ALLSOPP, Mar 30 2016 6:37PM
Response by Owner:

Review by: Rogers, Aou 1 2013 11:40PM
We stayed four nights in June/July while visiting the fascinating prehistoric caves. Our days were very busy, but our lodging was restful and charming. The room was very comfortable, and Jill's breakfasts were terrific. She went out of her way to make sure we had what we wanted, from good coffee to fresh fruit, and gave us a warm welcome back each evening. Don't miss an early morning walk around this lovely farming community!
Response by Owner:
