Description for B&B:

Babaudus was one of several small villages that used to be located in the Charente Departement until the early 19th. Century, when administrative reorganisation brought them into the Haute-Vienne. The village was large enough to have its own school (now a childrens holiday centre) as well as a blacksmiths and a bakery. Le Campagnard itself was the local bar and restaurant. The oldest part of the building dates from the late 18th. Century and it was used as a safe house and a weapons store for the local French resistance during World War Two. Right up until the 1960s it remained a popular social venue, owned and run by the same local family for over 100 years.

After some changes of ownership and a period of closure, a considerable amount of refurbishment has been undertaken for the reopening of Le Campagnard as a Chambres dHotes with a Licensed Restaurant for patrons.

Great four day break

Stayed at Le Campagnard while visiting the area. Teresa & Alan Bretman made us very welcome and helped with our sightseeing issues. All four of us (two rooms) slept very well, the rooms have all you need. We enjoyed the breakfast and we also ate in on two occasions and Teresa is a great chef.
Overall very good and great value.

Great place to stay!

I've stayed with Alan & Teresa twice now. The first time I was on my own and the second time I came with my family. The two hosts were just brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. They provided advice on many, many things French, whilst I was there and were really flexible with the lovely meals as I am a fussy eater. My room was fresh, clean and very comfortable with all the amenities provided. On my visit with the family we had a family room which again was excellent with everything we needed. Alan and Teresa treated us if they had known us for years and we all appreciated that. We are planning another trip to that part of France and will try and spend at least one night with Alan and Teresa.
Beautiful House & Wonderful Hosts.

I stayed with Alan & Terry at their lovely house in idyllic Babaudus.
The breakfast and evening meal were sumptuous, my room very comfortable and nothing was too much trouble for the kind hosts.
This is the place to stay for a long or short break, give it a try!

1. From Rochechouart follow the road in the direction of La Rochefoucauld. 2. At the bottom of the Hill, turn right in the direction of Babaudus. This road is very narrow and there are many very tight bends. 3. You will see the Castle up on your right. 4. After 500 metres you pass an old Gallo-Roman Arch on your right. 5. After another 400 metres you will have to cross an old Gothic bridge. 6. Continue on this road as it climbs a hill with many very tight turns. At the top of the hill the road continues on a level for another 300 metres to an intersection with another road which passes from left to right. 7. Take the right turn and after 100 metres you will see the sign that you are entering Babaudus. After this, take the second on the left (you will see the sign: Grand Rue de Babaudus). 8. The road bears right and then left and Le Campagnard is the first building on the left; you will see the sign for our Reception and our Car Park, which is the next left turn.
