Nestled in the heart of Molitg-les-Bains — a quiet Catalan village at 650 m altitude, where the great cellist Pau Casals once lived — Escapade à Molitg is a large stone village house with red shutters, fifty metres from the Romanesque church, opening onto a sun-filled garden where time slows right down.
Audrey, Karine and Pierrick welcome you personally from 4 pm, with the warmth and attentiveness that make all the difference.
Three rooms, three atmospheres
The Green Room is our largest: 35 m² of calm, furnished in wood and soft greens, with a king-size bed, a lounge corner, a desk, TV and Chromecast, and a private en-suite bathroom. Its greatest asset? A private terrace all to yourself, with a second bed for summer naps or sleeping under the stars, looking out over the garden and the Canigou massif — lulled by birdsong and the bells of the church next door.
The Blue Room is the most versatile of the three. Its 30 m² under the eaves, with dormer windows bathing the room in soft light, can be arranged in many ways: a spacious double for a couple wanting room to breathe, a family room sleeping up to four, or two sets of friends each with their own bed. An en-suite shower and basin are in the room; the WC is on the landing, shared with the Red Room.
The Red Room has the warmth of traditional Catalan houses: 25 m², deep warm tones, a classic atmosphere, a private bathroom, and a view onto the village street. Together with the Blue Room, it makes the perfect combination for two couples travelling together.
A house made for sharing
Beyond the rooms, the house is generous. A shared living space is available around the clock: a fully equipped kitchen (induction hob, fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle, French press), a lounge with board games and books, local tourist information, and a washing machine for longer stays.
Outside, the garden unfolds across several small inner courtyards: sun loungers for lazy afternoons, armchairs under the vine-covered pergola, a table under the fig tree for meals in the shade, a barbecue, a ping-pong table, and, tucked away at the back, the remains of an old sheepfold. A genuine living space — the kind you don't want to leave.
Breakfast worth waking up for
Every morning between 8 and 10, breakfast is served at Le Bon Temps, our grocery-restaurant-wine bar 250 metres from the house. On the table: organic bread from the village bakery, homemade jams and yoghurts, fresh seasonal fruit, local honey, homemade pastries, and fruit juice from the region. We believe in local, seasonal and homemade — and breakfast is where it shows.
Le Bon Temps is also open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner: a wine bar and grocery stocked with natural wines, local produce and good things to take home. Guests staying at the Escapade are always welcome.
Molitg-les-Bains and its surroundings
The village has everything you need within reach. The thermal baths of Molitg-les-Bains — part of the Chaîne Thermale du Soleil — are a 15-minute walk away, offering treatments, relaxation pools and wellness packages. Marked hiking trails begin right at the edge of the village, winding through garrigue, orchards and forest with the Canigou always in sight.
Prades, with its weekly market and summer Pablo Casals Festival, is 7 km away. Villefranche-de-Conflent, a UNESCO-listed fortified town, is 12 km. The ski resorts of the Pyrénées-Orientales are 40 km away. And the Mediterranean coast — Perpignan, Collioure, the beaches — is 50 km in the other direction.
Molitg is that rare place: halfway between sea and mountain, yet entirely itself. The kind of village you discover by chance and find yourself returning to.
